Understanding Your Tax Slips
MNBC reports all tuition and training supports to the Canada Revenue Agency and issues tax slips for funding over $500, whether the funds were paid directly to you or sent to your school on your behalf. Tax slips cover funding provided from January 1 to December 31 (the calendar year), while MNBC funding follows the April 1 to March 31 fiscal year.
MNBC and the Ministry of STEPS cannot provide professional tax advice. They can only confirm the amounts reported on MNBC-issued slips. Consult a certified tax professional or the CRA for filing assistance.
- T4E — Statement of EI Benefits: If you are eligible for Employment Insurance and apply for funding, MNBC may use a funding stream that requires a T4E. This does not affect your EI eligibility or benefits.
- T4A — Statement of Pension or Other Income: Issued when training is supported through MNBC’s standard Indigenous skills and employment programs.
- Multiple slips: You will receive a tax slip for each funding source used to support your goals. If your funding source changes during the year, you will receive a separate slip for each stream.
T2202 Tuition Certificate
Your school, not MNBC, issues the T2202. It is used to calculate the Tuition Tax Credit, which helps offset income reported on your MNBC tax slips. Download it from your school’s student portal or contact the school registrar, and give both your MNBC slips and T2202 to your tax preparer for Federal Schedule 11.
