Métis Veterans BC

Métis Veterans British Columbia (MVBC) works to promote public awareness, education, and recognition of Métis veterans across the province. This mandate was established at the September 2010 Annual General Meeting, when MNBC Citizens ratified the first Métis Veterans Act in the history of the Métis Nation in B.C. This enacted legislation to govern Métis veterans in B.C. and to establish guidelines, policies, and procedures for MVBC.

MVBC consists of a Veterans Chair, Membership Clerk, Sargent at Arms, and seven regional representatives. The committee fulfills a ceremonial role in Regional Governance Councils and undertakes the role of the Gabriel Dumont Scouts for provincial level meetings such as the Métis Nation Governing Assembly and the Annual General Meeting. MVBC also supports a uniform Métis veteran identification process and establishes representation requirements regarding Métis veterans in the province.

Are You a Métis Veteran in B.C.?

MVBC is looking to collect the names of B.C. Métis veterans to support in recognizing and securing compensation for Word War II (WWII) Métis veterans from the federal government.

In September 2017 the Federal Government announced that Métis veterans that served in WWII may not have received a demobilization package when they returned home. The demobilization package was not offered to First Nations, Inuit and Métis veterans, which was an injustice to of the service Indigenous veterans.

The Federal Government has since announced a compensation package for WWII Métis Veterans. Though we realize that many WWII Métis veterans may have passed on, surviving family members may also be eligible for a compensation package. We want to do our best for Métis veterans across the province, honouring their service and dedication.
