Métis Women BC Council

The Métis Women British Columbia (MWBC) Council is the elected voice for Métis women in B.C., entrusted to enhance and empower the rights of Métis women. MWBC has the responsibility to ensure that Métis women are included at the community, regional, provincial, and national level to fulfill their potential in all aspects of their lives: physical health and well-being, cultural connection, family well-being, education, and economic security.

MWBC serves Métis women across the province and approaches its work with an open heart. In the spirit of collaboration, diverse voices are respected, and respectful relationships, principles, and procedures are encouraged. All Métis women, including trans women and queer women, are welcomed in this space. MWBC will strive to address issues in a manner which reflects the changing needs of the Métis women in B.C. and be aware of the diversity between these needs in urban and rural communities.

Guiding Objectives and Principles

MWBC is committed to promoting opportunities for Métis women to share their skills and accomplishments, and to achieve their full potential. MWBC advocates on behalf of all Métis women and supports them in maintaining their pride in who they are by:

  • Retaining Métis culture, languages, and traditions.
  • Nurturing healthy families and communities through sustaining a healthy lifestyle.
  • Respecting the diversity and uniqueness of all Métis people.
  • Honouring Elders and Knowledge Carriers and valuing their knowledge in managing and preserving our natural resources for future generations.

MWBC will provide, whenever possible, supportive and culturally relevant programs as identified within the Métis community. Regional Representatives lead a variety of community-based projects and programming. If you are interested in learning more, or if you would like to invite your Regional Representative to your event, please find their email contacts further below.
