Grand Opening of Zhenn Sayd Child Care Centre in Port Alberni, B.C.

Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC), in partnership with Mountain Sage Holistic Childcare Society, hosted the grand opening of Zhenn Sayd Child Care Centre in Port Alberni on October 22, 2026.

The new child care centre features 34 spaces for children in the community. It reflects a shared commitment to supporting children in culturally safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environments while strengthening community connections through partnership and collaboration.

In 2023, MNBC partnered with Alberni-Clayoquot Métis Society, Tseshaht First Nation, and School District 70 to address the growing need for quality child care in the region. Through the Province’s Distinctions-Based Space Creation Funding, MNBC secured development funding. The investment reflected a shared commitment to expanding access to culturally inclusive, high-quality early learning opportunities while supporting local families and workforce participation.

The Grand Opening of Zhenn Sayd Child Care Centre is an opportunity to celebrate a significant milestone for Port Alberni and recognize the many individuals and organizations who worked together to make this vision a reality. As families continue to access much needed child care services, the centre will serve as a lasting investment in the well being, growth, and future success of children in the region.

Zhenn Sayd Child Care Centre stands as an example of what can be achieved through meaningful partnership, community collaboration, and a shared commitment to supporting children during their earliest years of development.
