About

The Ta Saantii Mamawapowuk Health Gatherings seek to foster Métis allies and champions within Health Authority staff to promote better respect, awareness, and support for Métis accessing the healthcare system. These gatherings bring together Métis Citizens, Health Authority staff, and MNBC Leadership for relationship-building and discussions which are grounded in Métis values. These partnerships are crucial to the development and implementation of culturally safe, self-determined processes for Métis Citizens in the health system, a need identified by MNBC ‘s Métis Public Health Surveillance Program, Taanishi Kiiya?

Why Attend?

  • Learn the history of our stories, who we are and our diverse experiences
  • Foster safe spaces amongst communities and health care providers
  • Connect with the Métis Community
  • Immerse and engage with Métis specific cultural activities
  • Apply your learnings into your daily practice

Health Authority staff receive foundational education in Métis culture and history, focusing on how this background informs and improves healthcare delivery within their regions. With MNBC staff available to introduce key MNBC programs and services, the gatherings strengthen partnerships and empower healthcare professionals with resources to support Métis Citizens effectively. This engagement fosters culturally safe environments and reinforces the importance of Métis perspectives in regional healthcare settings.

Who It Is For

TSM provides valuable opportunities for MNBC staff, Health Authority representatives, and Métis community leaders to align priorities and collaborate on enhancing health and wellness outcomes for Métis people. These gatherings, held in the Fraser, Interior, Northern, Vancouver Coastal, and Vancouver Island health regions, centre Métis cultural practices from beginning to end, featuring contributions from local Elders, Knowledge Keepers, or Chartered Community Presidents to lead cultural teachings.

Métis Nation British Columbia would like to acknowledge and thank all of the Métis Chartered Community members who have attended each of the TSM Health Gatherings, and who made this work possible. It is through your contributions, and willingness to have tough conversations that this work has been made possible. We thank you for your time.
