Mandate
As part of its mandate, Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) is committed to fostering economic prosperity and self-reliance for the Métis Nation. This is achieved by supporting, promoting, and advocating for Métis citizen businesses through various programs and projects delivered by its Ministry of Economic Development.
Responsibility
The Ministry of Economic Development at MNBC is responsible for creating and implementing initiatives that enhance the economic well-being of Métis citizens. This includes offering resources, guidance, and support to Métis-owned businesses to ensure they have the tools and opportunities needed to thrive.
Priority
A key priority for the Ministry of Economic Development is to continuously build capacity and create an ecosystem that positions Métis citizens and their businesses for success. This aligns with MNBC's strategic plan Goal Three: Pursue socio-economic reconciliation. By addressing racism and systemic barriers, the Ministry aims to lift up Métis people, families, Chartered Communities, and individuals of all ages, genders, and abilities, helping to bridge the socio-economic gaps that still exist due to the legacy of colonization.
Partnership
The Ministry of Economic Development collaborates with various stakeholders, including governments, industry, associations, different MNBC ministries, and the Métis Financial Corporation of British Columbia (MFCBC). These partnerships are essential for fostering a supportive environment that enables Métis businesses to prosper and achieve long-term success.
