September 16, 2022 (Surrey, BC) – The Province of BC has declared Monday a holiday, closing schools and daycares across the province. With a diverse staff with many young families, we recognize the hardship these closures have provided on such short notice. We will close our offices in recognition and support of our staff.
MNBC understands that many of our staff and Métis Citizens will mark this day in different ways. We recognize the sense of duty which Queen Elizabeth II exemplified as she fulfilled her role as the symbolic head of state for Canada. MNBC honours our Métis veterans that have served, with some that have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. At the same time, MNBC also acknowledges the complicated and challenging historical relationship between Métis people, and indeed all Indigenous people, with the office of the Crown.
MNBC views this day as an opportunity to focus on the upcoming National Day of Truth and Reconciliation and honours those families impacted by colonization and residential schools.
