Statement – For Immediate Release
Métis Nation British Columbia Executive Committee Suspends Board President
Acting President Appointment and Announcement of Independent Review
August 18, 2025: SURREY, BC – Today, it is with great dismay that Métis Nation British Columbia’s Executive Committee suspended Walter Mineault from his position as President of MNBC. Over the course of Mr. Mineault’s tenure, the Executive Committee received complaints about behaviour inconsistent with our policies and the public also brought information forward to the Executive for consideration. As a result, we had a duty to act in the best interests of MNBC and our Citizens. This is not an easy decision, but it protects the integrity and reputation of our Nation. While Mr. Mineault is under suspension, we will be launching an independent review of his time as President. The findings of the review will assist the Board of Directors in determining if Mr. Mineault remains in his position. Those results will be made public. In the meantime, I have been appointed Acting President by the Executive Committee.
It may be difficult, but in the spirit of Otipemisiwak - “the people who own themselves,” we will always uphold our cultural values of integrity, kindness, and respect.
On behalf of the Executive Committee,
Melanie Allard
Acting President
Métis Nation British Columbia
