Métis Health Experience
About the Program
Navigating the health care system can often be overwhelming, especially if you or someone you know is facing health challenges. The Métis Health Experience Program assists Métis individuals, families, and communities across BC to navigate the healthcare feedback process. The program provides a safe space for Métis-led conversations around all types of health experiences and advocates for change, through story sharing and ensuring Métis are being represented in health.
The Métis Health Experience Program offers an alternative for Métis to share their truths outside the system and to be heard and seen by their peers and the system in a uniquely Métis way. We recognize the harm the health feedback process can cause to Métis people. If you don’t feel comfortable with sharing your story directly to the system that led to those harms, the Métis Health Experience program ensures your voice is heard, respected, and validated. This is your story; it will only be shared as you wish.
Métis Health Experience Guidebook: Navigating Provincial Health Feedback
The Métis Health Experience Program acknowledges the barriers that Métis people experience when accessing healthcare feedback processes, such as lack of culturally appropriate feedback options, lack of awareness about care concern programs, issues of cultural safety and deep-rooted mistrust with the healthcare system. The Métis Health Experience Guidebook is a resource created to assist Métis individuals in navigating the healthcare concern, compliments and feedback processes available across BC. The Métis Health Experience Guidebook: Navigating Provincial Health Feedback is a resource for any Métis individual seeking to provide feedback about their health experience or for loved ones supporting a Métis individual navigate BC’s healthcare feedback process.
