These funds must be used towards event-related costs that directly benefit early years families (birth to eight years). The funding may be used for a one-time gathering (e.g: Indigenous Day Event; Summer Family Event, Winter Holiday Events) or for two or more gatherings (eg: small monthly family gatherings).

Please note that any applications received after May 29, 2026, may not be processed.

Indigenous Early Learning and Child Care (IELCC) Community Governance & Engagement Funding Initiative

The MNBC Ministry of Education will be implementing a Board-approved governance and engagement funding investment to provide funding through the 60/40 allocation model per year to each Métis Chartered Community over two fiscal years (FY 2026–2027 and FY 2027–2028).

This represents a total investment of $3,900,000 across the two years, subject to community opt-in.

UPIP Funding

On March 13, 2026, $9,000 in UPIP funding was deposited to each Métis Chartered Community to support programs and services for communities

All funds are to be spent by March 31, 2027, allowing sufficient time for planning and implementation of initiatives.

Below are the Funding Spending Guidelines, which outline the priority areas and examples of eligible activities for the use of these funds. This funding supports projects that deliver programs and services to Indigenous people living in urban areas. Proposed initiatives should align with one or more of the priority areas listed below.

To support communities and reduce administrative burden, reporting requirements will be streamlined. Further details and guidance on the reporting process will be shared shortly.
